Dr. Michael Lucia Discusses Sleep Deprivation And Your Health
Sleep is one of the most undervalued factors in overall health. It starts as teens, sleeping up to two hours less than generations past, and eating much later than before. It increases health risks, weight gain, and lowers productivity at work.
Dr. Michael A. Lucia, MD, DABSM, FCCP, FAASM. Originally from Alabama where he earned his undergraduate degree from Spring Hill College and completed medical school training at The University of Alabama School of Medicine. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Ohio State University and Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio and a fellowship in Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC. He joined the University of Nevada School of Medicine faculty in 2000, and during his tenure he won multiple teaching awards, established the first formal sleep lab at the local VA medical center and was directly involved in development of the Internal Medicine Residency Program and Family Practice Resident ICU rotations. After recognizing an unfilled need for outpatient pulmonary, allergy and sleep medicine care in the local community, Dr. Lucia opened Sierra Pulmonary & Sleep Institute in Sparks in 2002. Dr. Lucia is currently certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Pulmonary Disease, Critical Care Medicine and Sleep Medicine. In 2000 he earned certification by the American Board of Sleep Medicine and became a fellow of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
