Obesity was on the rise anyway, but as the fight against saturated fights began in the 80s and sugar intake rose in the 80s, the obesity epidemic sky rocketed.
Is this something we can control like tobacco and alcohol? Robert Lustig thinks we should try. But sugar goes into almost every food whereas tobacco goes into a few things that aren't consumed daily for most people. Like cigarettes which wouldn't be considered a necessity whereas food is. It would not only challenge the culture, but shake up the economy, we are so highly vested in sugar.
But is it a battle worth having for the sake of our health? Consumers make a vote every time we purchase something.
