Future You

As busy as I am now, I know things will probably only get busier. So better to get things done now, because most likely you will be more lazy and too busy in the future than you are now.

Heavy D

Just read Heavy D was 344lbs when he died and was on a mission to lose the weight again, working out 6-7 times a week. Even getting training at one of my old training studios. Pursuing health until the very end. Very sad bit of information.

Free Work Out

If anyone who is not or was not ever a client wants a free work out (not a consultation which is free anyway), send me an e-mail. No strings attached. Just paying it forward for all the fans I've accumulated.

Arthritis

I've suffered with arthritis most of my life in combination with scoliosis. It's a pain you can't describe. But the only relief I have ever found is through movement. If you stop moving, your cartilage degenerates further. Increase the nutrients in your joints with movement.

Computer Neck

Worked out all weekend and was fine and ended up hurting my neck staring at my laptop too long. Lesson learned.

A Family Work Out

Nice to see so many families come together to work out. As a group of 4:

400 Squats
400m Run
300 Sit-ups
400m Run
200 Burpees
400m Run
100 Jump Change Lunges (each leg counts as one)

Thanksgiving

Waking up at 7am at my parents house to work out with my wife and many other families reminded me that people have made Thanksgiving about the food when its supposed to be about the family. Make sure you focus less on the food and more about the Thanks. I myself am thankful for one more holiday with my father. I could care less what we eat as long as I get to spend some more time with him and his illness has not overtaken him.

India

People joke about the people of India being engineers, feeble, or only about education. Actually a lot of martial arts and strength training came from India, they were and are still a powerful people. I am in the processing of learning Indian Club Swinging. Speaking to some of my Indian clients, they had never heard of it or had any idea that this, along with mace swinging, and wrestling all came from India. Also several forms of sword fighting as well. We all just know yoga now. As a soft art based on breath and flexibility, they also had the opposite extreme of arts based on conditioning for war and battle. Even look at warrior 2 pose in yoga, it looks like a boxer's jab or a thrust with a sword. With the extension of the shoulder to get further reach and the shifting of the weight to the front foot, its technically a perfect strike from a martial arts standpoint.

It's much like the rest of Asia where physical techniques, exercises, and arts were invented but now the focus has shifted so much to education and computers, it is now being lost. Asians invented martial arts and a lot of the conditioning techniques, but now they are abandoning it to only pursue books and memorization. It's a shame as they lose a lot of their kinesthetic and spatial intelligence, and though they think their brain is getting bigger, only their frontal lobe will develop as the rest of their brain becomes underdeveloped. Which may be the reason why such "smart" people seem so uncoordinated and awkward in social settings.

Free Time

So when I'm home, instead of relaxing, I find myself watching DVDs on medieval work outs and ancient strength techniques...

I also have 4 work outs planned for my Thanksgiving trip back home.

Be Uncomfortable

Life will always put you in uncomfortable situations to force you to grow. If you aren't ever in those positions you aren't living life.

Health

No amount of money, fun, freedom, convenience, travel is worth your health or the health of your loved ones. Believe me. In the end you will sacrifice everything else you have to get that back.

A Full Day

I personal coached my clients this morning, boxed at Wildcard Boxing, worked on Indian Clubs with Army Maguire, then took a swim lesson, now eating dinner with my beautiful wife. What a day! What a life!

More Vegetables!

A plant based doesn't doesn't necessarily mean no animal products. It just means your diet is based around plants. But just because you eat animal products doesn't mean you have to eat it every day. Balance.

Videos Like These

Do videos like these really need to exist to make parents send out their kids to go play?

Talent

Talent is some unperceivable innate thing now but originally it used to be a measure of weight. Talent is measurable. You can measure it in hours of work you've put into a goal.

No Such Rule

There is no such rule that states that you should ever eat until you were full. Being full and being done eating are not the same thing.

On The Radio

Heard someone on the radio say, you don't need much to make dinner. You just need a bag of flour and a bag of sugar to start...What kind of meal is this going to be?

My New Toys

My new toys. My clients will hate them! But in a good way...

Personal Training Nowadays

Nowadays personal training looks a lot like a crappy step aerobics class, a crappy version of body building, or even more recently a crappy version of a strong man work out.

The Term Obese

Nowadays in some parts of the country and in your very own city or circle of friends, you have to basically be morbidly obese for anyone to just consider you just obese.

The Zone

The Temporary Source of Power

Nothing in this world lasts forever. Even power. All power does is buys you time. You got a degree, that gives you about 5 years of power, in that time you can get a good entry level job. That job now gets you a few more years, hopefully in that time you learn a new skill, get certified, get a new degree, etc. If after ten years, all you did was get a degree and get a job, of course you are the first one likely to get cut and the one hardest to employ.

Most people lack any kind of foresight. The universal form of power every culture understands is beauty. That gives you instant power. You somehow use that to buy nice things, be very selective in your mates, etc. Never looking ahead or assuming that this source of power was temporary. Years pass, your beauty has faded and you never created another source of power for yourself, now what?

You used to own the top oil company in the world. Let's say 40 years have passed. What do you have now? You still going to be the top oil company in a commodity that is running dry? Or in that time did you create a new power source like solar, natural gas, wind, etc?

Health is the same way. You used to be healthy years ago, you used to be an athlete. That's gone and done with and there's no point in talking about it now. Who cares what you used to be or what you used to have, that was a temporary source of power, a temporary source of health and now you have to create the next source of power and health unless you want to diminish your value continuously. No one wants to grow older, get fatter, and get poorer.

You have one good day last week, one good meal...who cares. You have to continuously one up yourself. You did 10 push ups? Well what can you do today?

You worked out once last week? Well what about this week?

Keep increasing your health, by physically wealthy. That's all out effort. That's power.

If the best thing you can do is what you've done yesterday, then you've got other problems.

Barefoot Running Article

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/06/magazine/running-christopher-mcdougall.html?_r=1

Our Sewage System

Our digestive system is basically like the sewage system of our body. And they say a city is as healthy as it's sewage system. Since Roman times when the sewage system got overloaded, it's citizens got sick. Pollution in a global sense is making us very sick along with our planet.

Our sewage system was never meant to be full every day. Neither was our digestive system. Think about it, you overload the thing every day for years and years and it never has a chance to repair, deal with backed up mess, flow optimally...I mean what do you think will happen to you? Do you think you will live a healthy life?

Our digestive system is like the sewage system of our body. It was NEVER meant to be consistently full.

Even He Can Do It!

Time Is Valuable

A lot of people are not about saving time, they are about saving movement. They will wait 10 minutes for a parking spot to save themselves a 2 minute walk.

These same people will also complain about never having enough time. I wonder why?

Minorities

We are not all created equal. Hispanic and black children are 80-90% more likely to see advertisements for sugary drinks than their white counterparts.
